Bad Tempered Bantams

Monday, 22 May 2006

Three eggs from KoKKo, Adelaide and Ginger this morning, and they seemed perfectly happy despite all the rain when I went up the allotment to feed them this morning and give them fresh water.

Their run is fully covered so they are in the dry, and out of the wind and can enjoy the sunshine down one end and the shade up the other near their hen house.

Pumpkin, and Freckles love to have a dig after it has been raining.

I moved their favourite log over a bit and they just dug and dug and dug where it had been.

They kept digging in the same space for an hour - then gave up when they discovered the brick wall behind it!

Dilly is still broody – so I am getting a bit bored with her bad temper and attacks, but I still lift her out and ensure that she runs around and eats several times a day.

Dilly enjoying some freshly pulled up grass and weeds from the garden this morning.

Pumpkin is fed up with her too so they always have an argument.

Pumpkin tucking into and apple and pear - having seen off Dilly - who is content to eat the grass and weeds until it is her turn at the fruit.

Looks like Freckles is going broody too now as she is getting grumpy and was in the nest for hours without laying her egg!

Set in the nest for the rest of the day!

  2. Oh no, I thought that she would just be broody for the time it takes to hatch out a batch of eggs.

That explains why has could have hatched out a few batches in the time she has been broody.

I reckon it is time for the ice cube treatment?
